Sunday 4th October

The visitors took the lead on 11 minutes when Christy Currans high cross was parried by keeper Mark Doherty and Fergal Buchanan slotted home from six yards. They doubled their lead when Dean Hegarty’s low corner was slotted home at the front post by Hugo Curran. The home side replied on 35 minutes when PJ Thompsons effort from twenty yards skimmed the post after his initial free kick had rebounded off the wall. Minutes later Thompsons free found JP McDermott but he was unlucky to see his header rebound off the post. The point broke and made it three nil when Paul Hegarty fired a superb forty yards wind assisted effort to the roof of the net. Carrowmena reduced the deficit on 47 minutes when Finnbar McCallion crossed for Damien McGonagle to head past John P McColgan from six yards. On the hour Gerard Gill went close when he turned well but McColgan was equal to his effort. Minutes later Paul Hegarty made it four when he converted a penalty awarded for handball. The visitors made it five on 80 minutes after good work by Gerard Greene on the right fed Buchanan who squared for Paul Hegarty to fire to the roof of the net from twelve yards and complete his hat trick. They completed the scoring on 83 minutes and again it was Greene and Hegarty who combined to set up Dean Hegarty to fire low to the corer from six yards. Carrowmena replied but Thompsons free brought a fine save from McColgan.

 

Sunday 11th October
Redcastle Res 1    QPS Res 2

Played on Saturday evening the home side started well with Greg Breslin feeding Stephen Grant but his effort trickled past the post. On 14 minutes the visitors replied with Paul Hegarty’s free easily gathered by Michael McCole. Redcastle replied and when Robert McLaughlin’s ball over the top found Steven Davenport he delayed and the opportunity was lost. QPS broke the deadlock on 35 minutes after McCole failed to collect a Dean Hegarty free allowing Paul Grant to slot home from close range. Redcastle replied and when Grant fed Davenport on the edge of the area his shot was diverted away by keeper Brian Lynch. The home side started the second period well with Grant’s attempted lob just over before the same player had a shot tipped onto the bar by Lynch on 52 minutes. They levelled minutes later after Davenport fed Matt Grant who controlled well to slot low past Lynch from twelve yards. The point replied on 65 minutes when Hegarty’s thirty yards effort was turned behind by McCole. The point regained the lead minutes later when Charlie Curran fired home from twenty yards after McCole had pushed away a Damien McCallion cross. Redcastle tried hard but failed to level with the point going close when Dean Hegarty crossed for McCallion whose header crashed off the bar.

 

Sunday 18th October

The visitors dominated this game for long periods but Carrowmena were in this game until late in the second half The points first chance came in the first minute when Fergal Buchanan beat Carrowmena keeper Mark Doherty to the ball but his shot was just wide of the post, after 3minuites Dean Hegarty’s corner from the left was flicked on by Paul Grant but Carrowmena John Mc Dermott headed off the line, the point took the lead on 7 minutes when Paul Hegarty picked out his younger brother Dean and he chipped the advancing keeper from 16 yards On 15min Simon Wallace found Hugo Curran but his shot sailed high over the bar, after21 minutes the impressive Christy Curran broke down the right his cross found Dean Hegarty whose shot was well held by Doherty in the Carrowmena net on 25min Carrowmena’s Gerard Gill ball into the area was well held by Brian Lynch in the Point goal, after 29min Michael Farren’s free into the box was cleared by the points Paul Grant, Gerard Gill had another free from 30 yards on the half hour but Lynch gathered well, On 35min great play by Sean Harkin, Hugo Curran Dean Hegarty and Fergal Buchanan resulted in Buchanan shooting over to leave the score 1-0 at half time, the Point should have increased their lead after 46min when Fergal Buchanan played Hugo Curran through but his shot was straight at keeper Doherty, Carrowmena levelled on 55min when Gerard Gill picked out Sean McGrennaghan and he shot low past Lynch, Their lead was short lived on 57min Dean Hegarty made a good run down the left his cross found Hugo Curran and he was upended in the box Paul Hegarty converted the penalty, 10min later Paul Hegarty’s cross field ball found sub John (bud) Doherty and his cross into the box was headed home by Hugo Curran, Carrowmena Anthony Mc Dermott volleyed over from 20 yards on 75min, it was 4-1 on 78min when John Doherty picked out Dean Hegarty and he rounded keeper Doherty to slot home, 4min later it was 5-1 when Dean Hegarty’s corner from the right was met at the back post by Damian McCallion and he headed home, Carrowmena had the last chance of the game when John Paul Mc Dermott’s free four Eamonn Doherty but with just the keeper to beat he drove wide

Sunday 25th October
Dunree Res 1    QPS Res 1

The visitors started well with Sean Harkin feeding Paul Grant but his cross went a begging. They continued to press and Paul Hegarty saw his driven effort rebound off the bar with Roger McGilloway well beaten. Pressure p[aid off on 17 minutes when Harkin and Grant combined to set up Adam Harkin and he slid the ball home from six yards. Harkin then chipped McGilloway as he advance but the ball drifted just wide. Dunree replied midway through the half with Neil Moran’s effort well saved by Brian Lynch. On the half hour they went close again when Daithi McColgan fed Henry Connolly but he fired over from outside the area. Moran then broke on the right and crossed to Connolly but he headed wide from eight yards. On the resumption Dunree went close again after Neil J McCarron had an effort rebound off the post to safety. The point replied and when Paul Hegarty released brother Dean he lifted the ball over the advancing McGilloway but just wide. On the hour Moran burst through in a one on one situation but he fired wide. Dunree were reduced to ten men when Frank Kelly was red carded for two yellow cards on 67 minutes. From the free kick Paul Hegarty fired wide from close range. Dunree responded with Bernard Doherty dragging an effort just wide before Moran fired over when in the clear. When McGilloway parried a Dean Hegarty effort Fergal Buchanan fired the rebound straight at McGilloway. The home side rescued a point in the last minute when Moran’s corner was headed home by Malcolm McGee from six yards.
