28th March
QPS Res      1-3    Cockhill Celtic Yths
Played in good but windy conditions at Caratra Park the opening half was an even affair with both defences less than secure. Cockhill had the first strike on 7 minutes after Shane McDaid saw his snapshot turned behind by Brian Lynch.A quick free by the point found Damian McCallion on the right and his low cross was volleyed over under pressure by Hugo Curran.Cockhill against the wind upped the tempo with mark Gillespie firing over from twenty yards before McDaid charged down a clearance, advanced to the edge of the area but law his lob over the advancing Lynch just clear the bar.The point replied and took the lead on 28 minutes when Paul Hegarty’s driven free kick from forty yards was not held by Leo McColgan and Sean Harkin reacted first to poke the ball home.Cockhill responded within a matter of minutes and restored parity when the point defence failed to clear a harmless Michael Gallagher cross allowing Seamus Gill to pounce and slot the ball low past Lynch from six yards. The last chance of the half fell to the point with Hegarty cutting inside but firing left footed over the top from twenty two yards.Cockhill started the second period on top with Martin Bradley collecting a headed knockdown from Gill before seeing his powerful effort well saved by Lynch who gathered at the second attempt. McDaid then burst into the area but saw his angled effort turned behind by Lynch but they took the lead from McDaid’s corner when the unmarked Martin Donaghey rose to head home from ten yards. The swifts tried to reply instantly with a good move ending with Simon Wallace’s first time shot from a cross by McCallion well gathered by McColgan.Cockhill went very close just before the hour after Gallagher fed Bradley on the right hand edge of the area and his low shot rebounded off the far post before being scrambled clear. The point should have levelled on 76 minutes when Alex O’Brien beat keeper McColgan to the ball twenty five yards out but saw his low shot cleared off the line by the retreating Sean Porter. Cockhill finished strongly and added a third goal on 86 minutes when Bradley crossed to David laird who controlled well and fired a superb volley past the despairing dive of Lynch from twenty yards. On the stroke of fulltime substitute Michael Doherty saw a powerful left footed effort well parried by Lynch at full stretch as Cockhill advance to the semi finals.

When Harkin was again upended in the area minutes later this time Paul Hegarty hammered the ball low past McGilloway to equalize. Sunday 7th February
Gleneely Colts 2 QPS Res 3
Played in Gleneely in good conditions the Point reserve team were more than a match for the first division side. They started well with Paul Grant's header from a Dean Hegarty corner well saved by Keith McLaughlin. The colts replied and Declan Kearney fired a twenty five yards free just wide. Hegarty responded with a free gathered at the second attempt by McLaughlin in the colt's goal. The point took the lead midway through the half after Grant headed home at the back post following another Hegarty corner. On 31 minutes the colts TJ McKinley put in a dangerous cross but there were no takers before Ruairi Kelly had a twenty five yards effort turned round the post by Laurence Lynch in the visitors goal. Kearney then was unlucky when his free rattled the post and was cleared to safety. Gleneely upped the pressure before the break but failed to create clear openings. The point doubled their lead on 51 minutes when Paul Hegarty laid a free off to Grant who fired a superb left footed effort to the top corner from twenty five yards. Another Hegarty free fell to Hugo Curran unmarked but he failed to hit the target from ten yards before Grant found Paul Hegarty whose volley was brilliantly turned round the post by McLaughlin. Gleneely started to push men forward and on 79 minutes Kearney's corner was headed over by Daniel Nolan before McKinley was denied by a fine save from Lynch with Alex O'Brien clearing the loose ball off the line. The point made it three nil when Fergal Buchanan crossed for Mark Wallace to fire low to the net from twelve yards. In injury time the colts got one back when Jonathan Mclaughlin headed a Kearney free home from six yards. Deep in injury time Mclaughlin headed a Kearney corner home to make it three two. An incident on the stroke of half time both sides were reduced to ten men when Hugo Curran and Barry Diver were red carded.
